There's no middle ground on the topic. At least, not among people who have been riding mini dirt bikes for years and years and years. You are either a fan of scooters or you aren't. And usually, if you aren't a fan of scooters then you REALLY aren't a fan of pit bikes -- or even aware that they were, in fact, now called street legal scooters. If you are pro scooter than you were likely just nodding your head up and down happily. That's understandable.
Odds are that most people who use pit bikes don't have a car and most often then not use the road legal bikes to commute to work or school or even church.
Many people who have or have had cars are probably wincing and shaking their heads in agony. True, street legal bikes certainly aren't the most hip and desirable way to get from Point A to Point B, but I can guarantee you the people who are riding the scooters and sucking it up are saving infinitely more money than you are.
Hadn't thought of it from that point of view, huh?
Indeed, this is arguably one of the biggest benefits of street legal motorcycles and, with the recent spike in gas prices and downturn of out entire country's economy, it's really no surprise at all that street legal moped interest skyrocketed. People aren't blind, you know. Well, you automobile lot seem to be, but that's at least somewhat understandable.
There are many different kinds of street legal scooters, road legal pit bikes and dirt bikes now available and in all sorts of different colors and styles. They're becoming exactly like cars in this regard. It's really quite amazing. Who would have thought that when the scooter first sprung back onto popular culture in the late nineties that it would eventually morph into an actual street ridden phenomenon!
Whether you like them or you hate them, you have to admit -- street legal pit bikes are here to stay. So you might want to tone down your desire to hit them on the road every time you see one!
